IMPACT by Jude Anumudu

Definition of impact.

The Oxford English Dictionary gives two definitions of the word impact: “the action of one object coming forcibly into contact with another” and “a marked effect or influence.”

“A life is not important except in the impact it has on others’ lives.” – Jackie Robinson

Impact generally means influencing lives positively or negatively. An impact that last must be positive. Positive impact is when we inculcate good values in others through motivation, mentoring and encouragement. While negative impact is when you impart bad values in others by sharing negative information and encouragement with a good dose of pessimism.

Ways to Create a Lasting Impact Everyday

Discover how engaging in daily acts of kindness can create joy and impact in the lives of others. The world need optimism. Optimists view the world with a positive outlook, which is why there is a view that they experience better health, manage challenges more effectively and are generally more confident and happier people. Optimists might even have an overall higher quality of life.

Everyday we have the opportunity to help others or perform random acts of kindness that positively impacts others lives.

1. Give More

Give more than what is expected. Whether it is helping a colleague with a project, doing household chores you have been putting off for months or years, or spending quality time with your children. This helps you to live fully in the present.

2. Help Others

Helping others gives us a sense of connectedness, happiness, fulfilment and meaning. Look for ways you can make a difference in easing the load of others; from offering to pick up your friend's child(ren) from school, helping a colleague meet a tight deadline, run some errands for friends.

3. Send A Thank You Note

This is one of my favourite ways to demonstrate sincere gratitude for those people who touched my heart. I send thank you notes all the time to people who inspire me, have taught me valuable lessons, helped me grow and become a better person.

4. Create More Love

Everyday we have the power to choose to act with love or fear.  Dr. Joe Dispenza uses the analogy of living in either a state of “survival” or “expansion.” Survival state is operating from stress whereas expansion involves feelings of inspiration and operating from the heart which creates joy and happiness.

Daily meditation, mindfulness and practicing gratitude increases our ability to create more love in this world. You have the power to send more love to the world, to strangers on the street and your loved ones. There is no denying the power of creating more love in our lives and for those around us.

Conclusion

To impact others, you must be impacted first, you can't give what you don’t have. Be the change you want to see in others. “Be the change you want to see in the world” - Gandhi
